What is USA Rank?
USA Rank is a national youth soccer ranking system that provides objective team rankings based on game results.
The ranking system works in conjunction with USA Tournaments and uses a proprietary algorithm that evaluates teams based solely on their on-field performance. Rankings are not determined by polls, votes, reputation, or subjective opinions.
To generate rankings, USA Rank collects and processes hundreds of thousands of match results from leagues, tournaments, and major competitions across the country each year. Teams can also submit results to help keep their records complete and up to date.
How Rankings Are Calculated
USA Rank evaluates teams based on the results of their matches and the strength of their opponents. The system considers how teams perform against other ranked teams and uses those connections throughout the ranking network to establish national rankings.
More recent results are weighted more heavily than older matches, and rankings are recalculated weekly as new results are added.
Because the system is based entirely on match results, rankings may change as additional results are reported and processed.
Ranking Levels
In addition to a national ranking, teams are grouped into competitive levels:
- Gold: 1–100
- Silver: 101–250
- Bronze: 251–450
- Red: 451–750
- Blue: 751–1050
- Green: 1051–1550
These levels help teams, coaches, and event organizers compare teams against others of a similar competitive level.
Ranking History and Team Profiles
Each team receives a unique USA Rank Key and team profile that can be used by tournaments and event organizers for seeding and evaluation purposes.
Teams can also view ranking history to track movement over time and better understand how recent results have affected their position.
Why Rankings May Not Always Match Expectations
USA Rank is designed to be objective. Because rankings are based on actual results and opponent relationships, teams may occasionally appear higher or lower than expected.
As with any data-driven ranking system, accuracy improves as additional game results are collected and processed. The more connected teams are through competition, the more precise the rankings become.
